The Scientific Advice Mechanism is supported by the SAM secretariat, a small team within the European Commission.
This secretariat:
- acts as a liaison between the Scientific Advice Mechanism and the European Commission, including the Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation
- coordinates the development of a scoping paper when a new request for advice is received
- supports the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors in their work, for instance with administration and record-keeping
- works with the SAPEA communications team to communicate about the work of the Scientific Advice Mechanism
Within the European Commission, the secretariat is formally referred to as ‘Unit RTD.02 Science Policy, Advice and Ethics’.
