What contribution can advanced materials bring to the European Union’s (EU) strategic autonomy? How can the cross-fertilisation of innovation in advanced materials be enhanced? In this talk, member of our Working Group on Advanced Materials Sabrina Sartori will discuss the findings of SAPEA Evidence Review Report, on how to strengthen Europe's position in advanced materials development and deployment. By focusing on advanced materials for mobility, energy, construction, electronics, health sectors this talk will highlight the identified research endeavors, needed EU ecosystem, and processes to foster breakthroughs from fundamental research to technological translation and with the highest potential impact on European industrial competitiveness.
Biography:
Sabrina Sartori is full professor of physics at the University of Oslo (UiO) and leader of the section Energy Systems. She studied physical chemistry at the University of Padova and graduated with a PhD degree in materials science and engineering. Her main research interests are focused on energy-storage materials and hydrogen-based systems. Fundamental research is devoted to the synthesis and characterization of materials for hydrogen storage and production. She created and coordinated the Master Program “Renewable Energy Systems” at the University of Oslo, receiving the 2022 Education Prize. She is engaged in interdisciplinary collaborative projects with academic and industrial partners for sustainable materials/energy systems and technology development. Sartori is active in various national and international scientific committees and, since 2013, is an expert member of IEA Hydrogen Implementing Agreement tasks on hydrogen-based energy storage. She is the former elected President of the Materials Research Society.
