What will be the content of the workshop?
- Hands-on training and exploring good practices: you will have a chance to participate in communications masterclasses run by colleagues from across and beyond our community who will share their expertise on topics like use of AI tools and paid media.
- Discussion and exchanges: we will share our experiences and perspectives on a range of challenges faced by academy communications professionals. Questions can include how we can ensure our communications practices align with our ethical standards and how to build trust in research given the current global context.
- Professional networking: there will be plenty of opportunities to get to know colleagues from across Europe working for a wide range of types of academy, creating opportunities for exchange and cooperation and helping to build a European community of professionals.
The content is being co-created in consultation with the community and this page will be updated soon with a more detailed agenda.
Who should attend this workshop?
If you are a member of staff working in a European academy or network, specifically on communications, outreach or related activities, then this workshop is for you. You can be of any level of experience, seniority or age.
This workshop is not intended for senior academic representatives of academies (presidents, academy secretaries, international secretaries). These people will be much happier next door in the big conference!
How is this workshop linked to the SAM conference?
This workshop takes place at the same time as the big SAM conference Building bridges, at the same venue in the centre of Vienna. It is mostly separate from the conference, though the big networking dinner on the evening of 26 May will be shared between the two events.
The main conference is aimed at science-for-policy practitioners and researchers, policymakers at all levels, and representatives of organisations that regularly interact with policy. This workshop is for academy communications staff.
Please don't register for both events!
Is this workshop available to join online?
No, it's only in-person.
What does it cost?
Nothing! The event is fully funded.
Participants are asked to meet their own travel and accommodation costs (and book soon — Vienna gets busy in the summer!). But we also have a small budget to offset travel expenses for academies whose staff otherwise could not attend because of the costs. If you'd like to discuss this, please indicate this when you register.
