In recent years, the One Health approach has gained increasing attention as a way to address the interconnected risks to human, animal and ecosystem health. The environmental dimension, however, often receives less attention despite being a fundamental driver of health outcomes. Issues such as pollution, biodiversity loss and climate change are major determinants of both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
Members of the European Parliament’s Left Group have expressed strong interest in further exploring this dimension. Building on earlier exchanges, the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is organising a workshop tailored to the group’s staff, aimed at deepening understanding and linking the Environment & Health nexus with European policy.
Objectives
- Provide an accessible introduction to One Health with a focus on environmental determinants of health.
- Deep-dive into pollution & chemicals, biodiversity and climate change.
- Connect the Environment & Health nexus to EU policy frameworks.
- Offer space for dynamic and confidential exchange under Chatham House Rules to encourage frank contributions from participants.
- Explore potential avenues for collaboration.
This workshop will be held under Chatham House rules, no recording nor publication will be made available.
