This session will explore how advanced materials are reshaping strategic sectors and industrial systems.

Drawing on examples from areas such as energy, semiconductors, healthcare, advanced manufacturing and defence-related applications, panellists will examine emerging technological capabilities, material dependencies and industrial opportunities. The discussion will also consider implications for competitiveness, resilience, supply chains and sustainability, as well as the growing strategic importance of advanced materials in national and global innovation ecosystems.

Professor Mangala Srinivas, GCSA member and Professor of Cell Biology and Immunology, will participate as a speaker in a panel discussion moderated by Douglas Robinson (OECD). She joins Philippe Babin (Aeponyx Enterprises Inc. / Pasqal Canada Partnerships) and Teo Lombardo (International Energy Agency) to discuss developments at the intersection of science, innovation, and policy, highlighting the role of scientific advice in addressing emerging technological challenges.
