Economist Mariana Mazzucato will receive the 2019 Madame de Staël Prize for Cultural Values from All European Academies, honouring her wide-ranging work in the field of political economy and her ground-breaking contributions to understanding the role of the state in innovation.
The award jury valued her novel thinking challenging conventional wisdom, and efforts in shaping new narratives for Europe and its economy through her scholarly work and public engagement.
Mariana Mazzucato will be the sixth scholar to receive the prize, an initiative of ALLEA with the support of the foundation Compagnia di San Paolo.
The prize is awarded annually to eminent scholars and intellectuals whose work represents a significant contribution to the identity and values of Europe. The prize will be awarded during a ceremony at the 25th anniversary celebration of ALLEA.
