New Group of Chief Scientific Advisors starts induction in Brussels

4 July 2025
Over two days, the Advisors explored the whole process through which their independent, evidence-based advice is delivered to the European Commissioners.

The new Group of Chief Scientific Advisors has been invited to Brussels by the SAM Secretariat for a comprehensive induction, marking the beginning of their mandate within the Scientific Advice Mechanism.

In their discussions, the Advisors examined the challenges of providing advice that is not only relevant to policy needs and requirements but also grounded in solid assessments of scientific evidence. Here, the role of SAPEA (Science Advice for Policy by European Academies) is essential. SAPEA provides high-quality evidence reviews that underpin the Advisors’ recommendations to the College of Commissioners, helping them deliver well-informed opinions on critical policy questions.

The induction was an intense yet enriching experience, filled with information exchanges that helped the Advisors establish strong connections among themselves, within SAPEA, and with the supporting Secretariat. A good collaboration among all three components of the SAM ensures that thescientific advice process, which contributes to shaping EU policy, remains robust, transparent, and impactful.

We look forward to sharing more about their work with you soon.
