Sustainable Food Systems – SAPEA to work on a new topic

28 March 2019
What are workable paths to deliver an inclusive, just and timely transition to an EU sustainable food system, where possible delivering co-benefits for health, the environment, and socio-economic aspects? That’s the new question SAPEA will work on in coming months on the request of the European Commission’s Group of Chief Scientific Advisors.

The scoping paper of the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors points out that there is already a lot of high-quality scientific evidence and advice that describes challenges and recommendations on sustainable food system in Europe. However, the existing scientific advice doesn’t specify actions that can facilitate the expansion, uptake, replication and implementation of these recommendations. Thus, the upcoming SAPEA report will focus on those aspects that are missing in current knowledge.

SAPEA will assemble a group of leading experts from across multiple scientific disciplines to conduct this evidence review, which is expected to be published in spring 2020.
