The two-day conference is entitled ‘Building bridges: Shaping Europe’s science-for-policy landscape’.
It will gather some 300 science-for-policy practitioners, researchers, policymakers, and representatives from academies and organisations engaged in science-policy interactions. It is organised under the banner of the Scientific Advice Mechanism (SAM), which provides advice on demand to the European Commission and other EU institutions.
The agenda includes three central themes:
- Science Advice in Politics and Society
- Designing Better Institutions
- Building Skills and Practices
Attendees will engage in plenary sessions, interactive debates, and parallel sessions addressing pressing issues such as how to provide coherent advice on contested topics like solar radiation modification and balancing national interests with global goals.
This year’s event is hosted by the Austrian Academy of Sciences (OeAW) in their main venue at Doktor-Ignaz-Seipel-Platz 2, in the centre of Vienna. Other partners in the event include the EU’s Joint Research Centre, the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA), the International Science Council, and many universities, academies and academy networks from across Europe.
The conference is an in-person event, with only plenary sessions being livestreamed and recorded. To fully participate in debates, parallel sessions, and networking opportunities, physical attendance is required.
