In response to the substantial increase of energy prices in Europe in recent months, the Group of Chief Scientific Advisors to the European Commission published a scientific statement based on their June 2021 Scientific Opinion on A Systemic Approach to the Energy Transition in Europe. In their statement, the Advisors point out that accelerating the transition towards a low-carbon energy system is a solution that can lower energy prices in the long term.
