Handover of our advice on crisis management to Commissioners Mariya Gabriel and Janez Lenarčič.

The European Union faces a growing number of complex, overlapping, cross-border crises such as the COVID-19 pandemic, climate change and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It needs to improve how it prepares for and responds to them according to the scientific and ethical advice which was handed over to the Commission at the European Parliament in Strasbourg on 22 November 2022.

At the Commission’s request, independent experts from the Commission’s Scientific Advice Mechanism and the European Group on Ethics in Science and New Technologies jointly presented an evidence review report, policy recommendations and a detailed statement on ethics to Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth and Janez Lenarčič, Commissioner for Crisis Management.
